RELIGIOUS STUDIES

Religious Studies is an integral part of Bishop Grandin High School.  All students are required to enroll in one Religious Studies course in each year of their high school program.  Credits in the three courses are a requirement for participation in Bishop Grandin High School’s graduation.  Students who have come to Bishop Grandin in Grade 11 or 12 from a school district that does not offer Religious Studies courses must complete one Religious Studies class for each year they attended Bishop Grandin.

 Religious Studies 15 (3 credits)

The Senior High Religious Education Course journeys with students in the search for meaning and the invitation to become fully human.  The Religious Studies 15 course will assist young persons, with the help of the Gospel, to participate as Catholics in the shaping of our culture.  They will also examine various attitudes, values and behaviours for developing meaningful interpersonal relationships.  They will also explore two World Religions – Islam and Judaism.

Religious Education 25 (3 credits)

Prerequisite:  50% Religious Studies 15

The search for meaning continues in Religious Studies 25 with the fundamental question, “What do I believe about myself, others, and God?”  In order to assist students in their search, this course will explore Catholic Christian beliefs about scripture with a particular emphasis on the historical and faith elements in the life of Jesus Christ, as well as examine the beliefs of Hinduism and Buddhism.

 Religious Studies 35 (3 credits)

Prerequisite:  50% Religious Studies 25

This course will assist young men and women to understand themselves as moral persons living the way of Christ through an examination of ethical theories, the revelation of sacred Scripture, and the experience and teachings of the Catholic Church.  They will also explore three World Religions:  Sikhism, Confucianism and Taoism.

 Religious Studies 35 On-Line (3 credits)

Prerequisite:  50% Religious Studies 25

The Religious Studies 35 course is also offered as an on-line program as an alternative to those students who may have difficulty fitting the course into their schedule or students who have proven that they learn better on-line.  Excellent time management skills are necessary.
