Recommended Prerequisite: 50% Grade 9 Science
This academic science program builds on the knowledge, skills, and attitudes developed in the grade 9 Science program. The units of study are: Energy and Matter in Chemical Change, Energy Flow in Technological Systems, Cycling of Matter in Living Systems, and Energy Flow in Global Systems.
Science 10 AP (5 credits)
Prerequisite: 75% Grade 9 Science
This program is recommended for highly motivated and capable students. This Advanced Placement course is required as a pre-requisite to continue in one or more of Biology 20 AP, Chemistry 20 AP or Physics 20 AP. The units of study are: Energy and Matter in Chemical Change, Energy Flow in Technological Systems, Cycling of Matter in Living Systems, and Energy Flow in Global Systems.
Science 14 (5 credits)
Prerequisite: 50% or less in Grade 9 Science
This is a general science program designed for students seeking to satisfy high school diploma science requirements. The units of study are: Investigating the Properties of Matter (Chemistry), Energy Transfer Technologies (Chemistry and Physics), From Life to Lifestyles (Biology), and Matter and Energy in the Biosphere (Biology and Chemistry).
Science 20 (5 credits)
Prerequisite: 50% Science 10
This program is an integrated, academic science program that explores concepts in biology, chemistry, physics, and earth sciences. It is designed for students enrolling in non-science fields at post-secondary institutions. The units of study are: The Changing Earth, Changes in Living Systems, Chemical Changes, and Changes in Motion.
Science 24 (5 credits)
Prerequisite: 50% Science 14
This is a general science program designed for students seeking to satisfy high school diploma science requirements as part of their general education. The units of study are: Applications of Matter and Chemical Change, Understanding Common Energy Conversion Systems, Disease Defence and Human Health, and Motion, Change and Transportation Safety.

Prerequisite: 50% Science 20/Biology 20/Chemistry 20/Physics 20
The units of study are: Living Systems Respond to Their Environment, Chemistry in the Environment, Electromagnetic Energy, and Energy and the Environment.
Biology 20 (5 credits)
Prerequisite: 50% Science 10
The units of study are: Matter and Energy Exchange in the Biosphere, Ecosystems and Population Change, Photo Synthesis and Cellular Respiration, and Human Systems.
Biology 20 Advanced Placement (5 credit),

This program is recommended for highly motivated and capable students. The AP Biology is designed to be the equivalent of an introductory college/university course. This course completes the Advanced Placement Biology curriculum. Students registering in Biology 30 Advanced Placement must also register in Biology 35 Advanced Placement.
The units of study are: Nervous and Endocrine Systems, Reproduction and Development, Cell Division, Genetics and Molecular Biology and Population and Community Dynamics.
Biology 35 AP (3 credit)
Recommended Prerequisite: 75% Biology 20 Advanced Placement
This program is recommended for highly motivated and capable students. The AP Biology is designed to be the equivalent of an introductory college/university course. This course includes a field trip to the Bamfield Marine Station on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. Students are responsible for cost of the trip. Students registering in Biology 30 Advanced Placement must also register in Biology 30 Advanced Placement.
The units of study are: Botany and Invertebrate Zoology.

The units of study are: The Diversity of Matter and Chemical Bonding, Forms of Matter: Gases, Matter as Solutions, Acids and Bases, and Quantitative Relationships in Chemical Changes.
Chemistry 20 Advanced Placement (5 credit)
Prerequisite: 75% Science 10 Advanced Placement
This program is recommended for highly motivated and capable students. The AP Chemistry is designed to be the equivalent of an introductory college/university course.
The units of study are: The Diversity of Matter and Chemical Bonding, Atomic Structure and Periodicity, Solids and Liquids, Forms of Matter: Gases, Matter as Solutions, Acids and Bases, and Quantitative Relationships in Chemical Changes.

Prerequisite: 75% Chemistry 30 Advanced Placement
This course completes the Advanced Placement Chemistry curriculum. The units of study are:
Spontaneity Entropy and Free Energy, Reaction Kinetics, and Chemists View of the Nucleus.

Forensic Science 25: Introduction to Forensic Science (3 credits) (Course fee $30.00)
Prerequisite: 50% in Science 10 or Science 14
Forensic Science is the study of basic scientific concepts and technologies related to solving crime. Through the study of forensic science techniques, students are given the opportunity to explore and further understand how basic scientific concepts apply specifically to this unique field of study. Basic scientific skills and principles will be put to the test in practical activities including evidence collection, laboratory activities and case studies.
