Cafe Bistro
Bishop Grandin’s annual Café Bistro was held this year on Thursday November 18th at 7PM in our cafeteria. The rationale for this activity stems from the belief that language learning requires more than the simple acquisition of grammar. To properly learn a language one must be exposed to its culture. This evening of French songs, dances, skits and food is designed to invite our students into that French culture.
All of our French Immersion students were strongly encouraged to participate in this event. Some were waiters and waitresses, some performed, others handled the technology of filming, sound and lighting, others helped with the set-up, decoration and clean-up and still others participated by finding a French recipe for a finger food (squares, cookies etc.), preparing it and bringing it to school to be shared at the Café Bistro.
The grade 9 French Immersion students and their parents from St. Matthew’s, as well as grade 6 students and parents from St.Cecilia and St.Gerard, were invited to come to get an idea of the wonderful energetic and talented students we have in our French Immersion program. Our MCs, grade 10 students Haydon Quinn and Christine Piché did a wonderful job of introducing the various acts and keeping the evening rolling alomg on a fun note.
This year’s Bistro featured a wide variety of acts from talented musicians, singers, actors, dancers and even film-makers from within the French Immersion student body at Grandin. From Edith Piaf interpretations to French Canadian fiddle music, there was something for everyone. Some acts have become Bistro traditional favourites, such as the grade 11 Can-Can Girls. Several lucky audience members went home with wonderful door prizes donated by some of our French Immersion families. The evening was a great success and warm thanks are extended to all participants.
