Self-Directed Learning

The Online & Print Program is the Calgary Catholic School District’s creative solution for self-directed learning. This program, based out of St. Anne Academic Centre, seeks to enhance learning opportunities for high school students by offering students the option of taking a variety of subjects, at the high school level, through an online or print environment.

The learning platform Desire 2 Learn is used to facilitate interaction between the student, the teacher and curricular outcomes and can be accessed from anywhere a computer and internet connection exist. The flexibility this gives students in completing their coursework provides a freedom that is necessary if students have hectic schedules, cannot fit in all courses into a timetable or just wish to take a course in a non-traditional format.

An online or print course provides students with the same learning opportunities and the same expectations found in a regular classroom except that the classroom is accessed through the internet or print booklets. The skills students develop while engaging in self-directed learning will greatly enhance their overall learning strategies and skills.
