After a discussion at the April 22, 2010 governance session, a decision was made to begin steps to make better use of the consent agenda. These steps involve further educating trustees, senior administration, staff and our stakeholders as well as ensuring that items placed in the consent agenda section of the board meeting agenda, can be approved legally through the consent agenda process.
What is a consent agenda?
At a board meeting, at least a few items are on the agenda that do not need any discussion or debate because they are routine or were already discussed at length at a previous meeting. A consent agenda allows the board to approve all these items together without discussion or individual motions. This can free up time during the meeting for more substantial and meaningful discussion.
