The Calgary Catholic School District’s Stampede spirit was alive and kicking during the 2010 Calgary Stampede Parade on Friday, July 9, 2010.
The parade is the official kick off to the 10-day outdoor festival and draws an audience of about 400,000 in downtown Calgary. This year’s parade featured more than 750 horses and 3000 people with 260 entries.In celebration of the district’s 125th anniversary, the Board of Trustees entered in the parade as participants for the first time. Riding in a heavy horse hitch wagon, the Trustees greeted the festive crowd with smiles and waves.
In addition, the Bishop Grandin Marching Ghosts band, who are regular Stampede parade entrants, were also in attendance. The Calgary Stampede presented trophies for parade entries as well as awards to the top six showbands that participated in the Stampede Parade. Once again, the Marching Ghosts were presented with three out of the six awards.
Band entries were judged on musicality, form, and appearance. The results from the judging are as follows:
Best Senior Band - Bishop Grandin Marching Ghosts
Best Junior Band – Calgary Round-Up Band
Best Pipe Band - Calgary Police Service Pipe Band
Best Overall Band - Bishop Grandin Marching Ghosts
Best Canadian Band - Bishop Grandin Marching Ghosts
Best Band Auxiliary - Calgary Round-Up Band
