Calgary Catholic School District (CCSD) has established a successful tradition of public participation to support decision making in many different areas. As part of its annual planning process, CCSD revisits programs, their locations, school enrolment numbers and boundaries. Within the context of all CCSD schools and programs, the district utilizes a public participation process to support informed, collaborative decision-making related to all district program and accommodation planning. This consultation process is referred to as re-imagining.

Help Plan Our Future Public Meetings for the 2012-2013 School Year:
Public Meeting – St. Monica School program closure consideration
Public consultation meetings have been held with the St. Monica School community with respect to planning for anticipated future growth and program needs. The goal of these meetings is to explore recommended options with respect to the introduction of junior high single gender programming at St. Monica School in September 2013.
A motion was passed by the board of trustees at the April 17, 2013 public board meeting to begin the process of considering the closure of the junior high co-educational program at St. Monica School. Should the board of trustees proceed with the program closure, St. Monica School would introduce single gender programming at the junior high level.
In order to move forward with a proposed program closure, the Education Act and CCSD regulation requires that the board first pass a motion to begin a process of considering the closure of the program. The consideration for closure process also initiates further public consultation.
Bridges To… program closure
On April 17, 2013, the board of trustees approved a motion to consider the closure of the Bridges To… program, developed in partnership with Bow Valley College. At the time the Bridges To… program was developed to provide extended support to older English Language Learners who upon registration were 18 years or older. There has been a decline in enrolment in the program since its inception in 2009. This decline is due to a variety of factors, including, but not limited to a wider variety of programs now offered by the district and less barriers for students wishing to return to school. As a result, the Bridges To… program will officially close as of June 28, 2013. Any questions or concerns with respect to the closure of the Bridges To… program should be addressed to Don Cope, Help Plan Our Future Project Manager, either by phone at 403-500-2794 or by email at helpplanourfuture@cssd.ab.ca.
RADAR Program Closure
On May 1, 2013, the board of trustees approved a motion to close the Re-engaging Academically Disconnected Adolescents Respectfully (RADAR) program. The RADAR program was developed in partnership with Alberta Health Services, Calgary Board of Education, City of Calgary, Boys & Girls Clubs, Calgary and Area Child and Family Services Authority, the United Way and Wood’s Homes. At the time the RADAR program was intended to fill a gap in educational programming for students who had struggled in previous school settings. At a meeting of the partners earlier this year, it was determined that existing supports for students have increased since the start of the RADAR program, and there is no longer a need for the program, as both school districts now offer programs which were not available to students when the RADAR program began. As a result, the RADAR program will officially close as of June 28, 2013. Any questions or concerns with respect to the closure of the RADAR program should be addressed to Don Cope, Help Plan Our Future Project Manager, either by phone at 403-500-2794 or by email at helpplanourfuture@cssd.ab.ca.
St. Gabriel the Archangel K-6 Program Closure
Public consultation meetings have been held with the school communities of Our Lady of Wisdom (K-6) and St. Gabriel the Archangel (K-12) with respect to planning for anticipated future growth and program needs. The goal of these meetings is to gain public input in order to explore recommended options for programming and accommodations at Our Lady of Wisdom and St. Gabriel the Archangel in September 2013 and the following years.
Due to the continuing nature of the Help Plan Our Future initiative, new developments are posted on this page as they become available.
