Aboriginal Education

The Calgary Catholic School District Aboriginal Education team focuses on supporting Aboriginal students as they balance maintaining a strong link to their culture and heritage with learning the skills necessary to live successfully in today's society.

Aboriginal home and school liaison workers facilitate effective communication between the home and the school community, assist school personnel and encourage active parental involvement in their child's education.

The Aboriginal Education team provides various services, including:

  • Delivery of a cultural component in the context of instructional programs.
  • Provision of academic support, as required, to Aboriginal students.
  • Provision of instructional programs on Aboriginal history, traditions, art, beliefs and contemporary issues.
  • Consultation regarding Aboriginal issues.
  • Support to District and school administrators regarding the needs of Aboriginal students.
