Job description

This is a temporary assignment covering for an employee on leave.

The Education Assistant works in the classroom assisting students with diverse learning needs. This includes those who have severe social, emotional and communication needs and/or reflect an Educational Support I (ES I) learning profile.

 Assists students individually and in small groups
 Assists students with self-care (dressing, toileting, etc.)
 Assists with testing and recording results
 Provides general supervision of students during out of class time
 Assists in planning and supervising field trips
 Prepares teaching materials; photocopying, typing, computer data entry, phoning, bulletin boards, charts
 Contributes to class planning activities, behaviour and progress reviews
Assists with the delivery of the students' Individualized Program Plans

  - Category 2: High school diploma or equivalent 
  - Category 3: Diploma or Certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution or equivalent of a minimum one (1) year full-time post-secondary course study may be considered
 May require any of the following depending upon assignment:
  - Certified in emergency first aid (EFA) and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  - Behaviour management training
  - Lifting techniques
  - Rehabilitation experience
  - Restrictive intervention practices
 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
