Principal's Message
Welcome to Father Doucet Elementary School's
website! We are excited to be able to communicate to you in
this new medium of the new millennium. We will continue to add new
features in order to make it informative and interactive.
Father
Doucet Elementary School serves the students in the community
of Shawnessy as well as some students from Bridlewood and Somerset in southwest Calgary, Alberta,
Canada. With the
support of St. Patrick's Church in Millrise, our mandate is to teach
the
Alberta
curriculum in the context of Catholic education. We are one of 104
schools in the dynamic Calgary Catholic School District.
Our programs range from kindergarten to grade 6. There are also
additional literacy support programs including
Resource Support and English as a Second Language.
Father Doucet
School is a Catholic
Community of Caring school. The core values of the C.C.C. are
"family, trust, respect, responsibility and caring". The
C.C.C. committee works hard to reinforce these core values and
communicate them to all of our stakeholders.
Father Doucet
School welcomes volunteers
in our library, in our classrooms and in the school at large. We
have an active School Council which meets monthly.

Important Future Accommodation Information for
Students Residing in the Somerset Community
Msgr. O’Brien is currently operating at or above their peak
capacity with full portable classrooms on site and classroom
settings in ancillary areas. This situation is expected to continue
as there remains an extensive wait list for Bridlewood residents to
access the school and many new residents within close proximity and
within the walk limits that are currently unable to be accommodated.
The neighboring school,
Father
Doucet
Elementary School in Shawnessy,
continues to experience declining enrolments from its now older,
established community base and is forecasted to be operating at less
than half of its capacity by September 2010.
As a result of these issues, beginning September 2010, new
elementary students registering from the
Somerset community will be directed to
Father
Doucet School
instead of Msgr. O’Brien School. Exceptions will be granted in the
cases of students with siblings currently attending Msgr. O’Brien.
New junior high registrations will be accepted at Msgr. O’Brien, if
space permits.
For further information, please contact either Virginia Steffen
(Principal, Msgr. O’Brien School) at 403-500-2104 or Jane Easton
(Principal, Father
Doucet
School) at 403-500-2089.
