Holy Angels School is a learning organization in which staff and parents encourage and assist our children to reach their full potential, to meet the challenges of life, to serve their community and to journey in faith with God, through Christ in the Spirit.

The season of Lent is an invitation to enter into the wilderness of our need for God. This forty-day pilgrimage is marked by the practices of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving which are designed to focus and free us for the journey.

Feb. 22, 2010: Vancouver 2010 with Mrs. Maher

It’s been a thrilling adventure and the Olympic Games are only half done! The Canada vs. Switzerland men’s hockey game was a real nail-biter – not only overtime but then “Game Winning Shots” with Sidney Crosby as the final scorer – it was like being at a Flames playoff game! There is a “Sea of Red & White” here that is fantastic!

Seeing the Olympic cauldron lit was an inspiring moment – knowing that it is the same flame that came from Greece and traveled across Canada through Calgary filled me with the same spirit that we talked about when the torch was at Holy Angels.

Watching Marianne St-Gelais skate in the short-track speedskating and win the silver medal was unbelievable! Everyone was so proud to be Canadian and be part of her achievement that you couldn’t help but smile and be as happy as her.

While my trip is almost over – the games will continue until Sunday’s closing ceremonies – and the hope that we share for all athletes and all people will live on! Go Canada Go!! – Mrs. Maher

Feb. 18, 2010: Vancouver 2010 with Mrs. Maher

The Vancouver 2010 Olympics are awesome!!

The streets are packed with thousands of Canadians and people from all around the world.  Cheers for the Canadian athletes are loud and proud at all the events and sites around town.

There is lots to see and do when you’re not watching one of the sports – check out Alberta House, skating shows downtown, zip-lines across Robson Square, LiveCity sites where you can watch all the action on huge screens, street performers, visiting the cauldron and the holding the medals at the Canadian mint are just a few neat things to do.

Of course with so many people, the line-ups are huge – sometimes 5 hours long but it’s once-in-a-lifetime and well worth it!

I met Quatchi and Miga outside the Thunderbird arena before a women’s hockey game – they are so cute and cuddly!  Sumi must have been at another event that night.  No Mukmuk spotting yet – I think he’s pretty shy!

Have a great Olympics on Friday and play with the same enthusiasm and spirit as they are here!

Good luck!  GO CANADA GO!! – Mrs. Maher

Olympic Torch at Holy Angels

Haworth is an official Olympic supplier

On Wednesday, January 27th, Doug M. and Richelle B. from Haworth got our students excited and on their feet when they brought in a 2010 Olympic Torch. Their inspirational message of unity, spirit and hope was well received by staff and students. Doug participated in the Torch Run when it was in Calgary last month. Eight of our students received a pair of Olympic mitts and had an opportunity to run with the torch at our assembly.
