Course Withdrawal
Students in grade 10 and 11 are not permitted to withdraw from courses. Grade 12 students may only withdraw from courses that do not affect graduation outcomes. Please consult your TA and Student Services for course withdrawal forms. Course withdrawals may be denied. Approval for course withdrawal must come from TA, Course Teacher, Parent/Guardian, and Administration.
Test Drop Incentive
Students who wish to qualify for the incentive must have no more than three absenses and three lates per course. Any single course, which has more than this level, automatically eliminates the student from incentive for that course.
The student must also have no more than three absenses and/or three lates in Teacher Advisory (TAG) during the semester in which they wish to apply.
Absenses include both excused and unexcused absenses; they do not include school based activities (field trips, masses, and in-school activities).
Students must maintain a minimum average of 65% in the course they wish to apply incentive. No final exams can be excempted. This incentive is solely for those tests and assignments that occur during the semester.
Grading Guidlines
The Grading Guidelines are governed by Alberta Education curriculum guidelines, department regulations, and teacher’s professional judgment. Students can expect timely assessment that is fair and unbiased. Students should consult regularly with the teacher regarding their marks and keep records of their marks.
Homework
Students are expected to do homework regularly. It is the student’s responsibility to complete homework as assigned. When homework is assigned the student should record this information in their agenda. Many Teachers provide information regarding assignments through D2L (Desire to Learn).
Honor Roll
- a credit weighted minimum average of 80%
- no mark less than 50%
- a minimum of 13 credits in the semester
- St. Anne’s marks are not calculated
Pride Scholars
Pride Scholars recognize the academic achievement of grade 12 students who have achieved the Honor Roll for the first 3 marking periods of the year (Semester 1 Mid-term, Semester 1 Final, Semester 2 Mid-term) and for ALL 3 years. Eligible students are honored at a Pride Scholars Ceremony in the spring.
Valedictorian
A grade 12 student is selecred from a group of applicants to represent the Notre Dame High School graduating class at the annual Convocation Excercises. Applications must meet a specific criteria and prepare a convocations speech in a closed competition. The successful applicant becomes Notre Dame High School’s Valedictorian. This student speaks on behalf of the graduating class and she/he reflects the best of the Notre Dame High School in terms of academic, athletic, community, and spiritual merit.
Plagiarism and Cheating
Plagiarism and cheating are the unauthorized use of another person’s work as if it is your own personal work. School work that is plagiarized may not be given any credit and given a zero. Cheating during tests and exams may mean expulsion from the exam area and zero on the exam. Giving, lending, or selling work to another student is academically dishonest and is subject to discipline.
