FINAL DECISION
REGARDING ST. JOAN FUTURE ACCOMODATION

Several months ago, St. Joan of Arc School began a process of public participation to seek input from the community into possible solutions to address the challenge of accommodating the number of students seeking to attend the school. Throughout this process, school council parents, school personnel, Ward Trustee Lois Burke-Gaffney and District administrators have been meeting to determine solutions to address the upcoming accommodation needs for Catholic students in the St. Joan of Arc area. A focus group comprised of parents from a cross section of communities also met to review scenarios of possible solutions.

A public participation meeting, attended by over 600 parents and community members, was held on February 24th to present possible scenarios to address the future accommodations and planning for St. Joan of Arc School. Those in attendance were presented with five options for consideration and asked to provide feedback and recommendations. The information and input gathered at the meeting was collated to assist with the decision-making process.

Feedback indicated strong opposition to grade reconfiguration and changing boundaries that would involve current students leaving the school. As well, strong support was evident in favor of Option 1 and elements of Option 2, which would allow for parental choice, and the final future plan is a combination of both options.
