Our Grade 6's Grow in the Image and Likeness of God!

Holy Weekend Greetings St. Alphonsus Families!

Today we celebrated our faith with Father Ugo as Grade 7M hosted our Holy Thursday liturgy featuring the Stations of the Cross! Our Grade 7’s (under Mr. Monaghan) and our new student choir (with the musical support of Ms. Riegel, Mr. Haley, Ms. Hafichuk and Ms. Castelo) were amazing.

Father extends a warm invitation to attend the weekend masses and celebrations at Mother, Mary of the Redeemer Parish.  I’ve attached the link for you to find the parish information and mass times.

On behalf of the staff I wish your family a joyous Easter celebration filled with peace, love and chocolate!

Spring Break Greetings to our Community Families and Friends!

We are getting ready to go on Spring Break this Friday with students and staff enjoying holidays for one week!  School reopens on Monday, March 31, 2014.
Today our Social Justice Club kicked off our Lent Service Project for Ryan’s Well.  This lent, our community is encouraged to think about how much water we use and is there room for each of us to conserve it?  Our Social Justice student club leaders challenged our community to really conserve water for future generations as God calls us to be stewards of his earth for all!  The students also spoke about the Ryan’s Well Project that we are participating in.  Their powerpoint is included here for you to read through:    Ryan’s Well

As engaging our students in acts of service and social justice is a BIG part of our school plan, I really wish to celebrate the students and teachers who found the inspiration and made the time to lead our school in this project.  I hope you will consider giving generously to this meaningful project that comes from the care and heart of our students!

Blessings for a wonderful week of fun family moments that create joyful memories!
With peace,
Mrs. Gruending

March Blessings Everyone! With severe wind chills in the -30s, March has indeed swept in like a Lion!  On the bright side, this gives us hope for warmer weather as we near Spring Break on March 22, 2014.This week we begin our Lenten Journey as a united Catholic Community.  We invite all parents and guardians to our Ash Wednesday Liturgy on Wednesday, March 5 at 10:45 am.  Teachers will be talking to the students about the meaning of Lent and how service projects are a meaningful way to fulfill our Lenten promises.  To support their journey, we have purchased Lent Calendars that will be coming home with students on Wednesday as well.We are thrilled to announce that our annual Day in the Life on February 28, 2014 was a great success!  Nearly one hundred grade six students filled our junior high classrooms to experience the creativity and the unique fine arts learning opportunities that St. Alphonsus has to offer.  A special thanks to Ms. King and our Fine Arts teachers for their exceptional efforts in preparing for this event.  We also wish to extend our appreciation to the many parents who volunteered for our Junior High Activity day on February 28th as well!  Our Junior High students and teachers all enjoyed a day of getting active at Cardel Place!  This was an excellent way to end a very active month focused on building community in our school! If you know of anyone interested in in attending our Junior High, please encourage parents to contact our office.  We are currently booking interviews for the 2014-2015 school year. Our Kindergarten Open House will be on May 7th at 6:00 pm.  Please share this date with prospective kindergarten families that you may know.  More information on Kindergarten registration is included in this newsletter. Please watch for Progress Reports and student goal setting sheets to be coming home on Friday, March 7, 2014.  We hope you take this opportunity to celebrate what your child has accomplished and identify some areas to grow in our final term.  Parent Teacher Conferences will be on the evening of March 13 and during the day of March 14.The St. Alphonsus Conference Manager  will open on March 7 at 6:30 pm for bookings.  Our school district has many language interpreters available for families who wish to access an interpreter during interviews.
