The award honours teacher Mrs. Belanger and Mrs. Litzenberger’s dynamic plans for engaging students in learning about energy. The project is an extension of the project that the school was working on this year and is entitled, “Conservation Conversations, R+RB4R and More.” This project, to be implemented during the 2010-2011 school year, will inspire students to learn about energy in the world around them through hands-on, thought-provoking and fun activities. St. Bede’s project is one of only 38 across Alberta to earn a $5,000 or $10,000 grant from A+ for Energy in 2010. The program recognizes Alberta K-12 teachers with creative proposals for bringing energy and energy conservation to life in their classrooms. “Congratulations to St. Bede and all who will be involved in the A+ for Energy project. They should be proud of their achievement,” said Anita Perry, BP Canada’s vice-president of communications and external affairs. “BP supports A+ for Energy because the solutions to the energy challenges of tomorrow may well start with these students and teachers today. We’re thrilled by the school’s plans and know there is a great year of learning ahead for your students.” As part of the BP award, the lead teachers involved in this project are invited to a three-day energy education conference in Kananaskis in August to help them prepare for the launch of their A+ for Energy activities in the new school year. To learn more about A+ for Energy, visit www.aplusforenergy.ca. The minutes for the Annual General Meeting of the school’s Society have been posted in the School Council “Meetings & Minutes” section here. |
