  School zones set to begin 30 minutes earlier

 School zones in our city now begin 30 minutes earlier. Speed restrictions will commence at 7:30 a.m. instead of 8:00 a.m.

The changed was approved and put into effect by the City of Calgary in order to protect those students who show up to school early for extracurricular activities such as sports or music practice.

The modified school zone time went into effect as of August 1, 2010 in those areas surrounding year-round schools, however, it will not take effect near traditional schools until the start of the new school year on September 2.

School zones are in effect from 7:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. while playground zones remain in effect from 8:30 a.m. until one hour after sunset.
