Burning incense in religious ceremonies is a symbol of prayer and worship of God. The smoke from the burning incense is a clear symbol of the way in which our prayers rise to God. Burning incense is also a way in which we honour holy things. That is why the altar, Word of God, the people, the Easter Candle and the cross are incensed. We also use incense at funerals to honour the body of the deceased.

Prayer of the Month

Blessed are you, Lord God, for in your kindness you call and gift us to live and work together as a community of believers in the mission fields of Catholic education. Watch over us and guide us as we strive to proclaim the gospel, build community and serve our brothers and sisters in Christ. Through our common effort, may all members of our school district learn to follow in the footsteps of Christ our Shepherd and carry on his saving mission in the world. Through Christ our Lord. Amen

On May 8, we celebrate the Fourth Sunday of Easter, also known as Good Shepherd Sunday and the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. Write a note of thanks to your local pastor for his years of dedication and service and pray that the Holy Spirit will sustain him in his work. There are also religious orders in and around Calgary who would be appreciative of prayers and expressions of gratitude, i.e., FCJ Sisters and Seeds of the Word.
