Calgary, Alberta – We are pleased to announce that school names and principals have been selected for our four new Calgary Catholic schools expected to open in the fall of 2016:
- Auburn Bay (K-9): Prince of Peace School, Principal Marc Pilon
- Cranston (K-6): Our Lady of the Rosary School, Principal Marni Harrigan
- Evanston (K-9): Our Lady of Grace School, Principal Judy Yurchuk
- New Brighton (K-6): St. Marguerite School, Principal Kim Fradette
Naming our schools is a very important part of the process and one of the initial steps to building community among the individuals who will learn and work together. A Naming Committee is developed for each school, which includes representatives from senior administration, Board of Trustees, parishes and the school council chair.
The committee meets and reviews a list of potential names, which includes saints and prominent Catholic figures that reflect a commitment to gospel values, exemplary service to others and a willingness to journey in faith with God. The Naming Committee selects several suitable names and then gathers input from the school community and parishes and reviews the data before submitting it to senior administration for final approval.
These new schools will help relieve overcrowding pressures at current receiver schools and they will also provide room for our district to keep growing. Years of extensive planning and public consultation goes into the decision-making process of every new school we open.
