Bridges To… program closure

On May 29, 2013, the board of trustees approved a motion to close the Bridges To… program. The Bridges To… program was developed in partnership with Bow Valley College. At the time, the Bridges To… program was developed to provide extended support to older English Language Learners who, upon registration, were 18 years or older. There was a decline in enrolment in the program since its inception in 2009. The decline was due to a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, a wider variety of programs now offered by the district and less barriers for students wishing to return to school. As a result, the Bridges To… program officially closed as of June 28, 2013.

RADAR Program Closure

On May 1, 2013, the board of trustees approved a motion to close the Re-engaging Academically Disconnected Adolescents Respectfully (RADAR) program. The RADAR program was developed in partnership with Alberta Health Services, Calgary Board of Education, City of Calgary, Boys & Girls Clubs, Calgary and Area Child and Family Services Authority, the United Way and Wood’s Homes. At the time, the RADAR program was intended to fill a gap in educational programming for students who had struggled in previous school settings. At a meeting of the partners in early 2013, it was determined that existing supports for students had increased since the start of the RADAR program, and there was no longer a need for the program, as both school districts now offered programs which were not available to students when the RADAR program began. As a result, the RADAR program officially closed June 28, 2013.
