In partnership with SAIT, the district offers students a free one-year program to earn a Pre-Employment Electrician Certificate while in high school.
About the Program
Electricians play a critical role in many industries including mining, oil and gas extraction, construction, transportation and warehousing, manufacturing, and wholesale trade. Electricians in the construction industry can further specialize in residential (housing developments), commercial (office buildings), institutional (hospitals) and industrial (plants, factories) types of installations.
Students in this program will attend SAIT to complete their first period of technical training in the Pre-Employment Electrician Program. The program involves comprehensive coverage of electrical codes and theory, along with basic wiring and safety and covers all first-year Electrician Apprenticeship Individual Learning Modules (ILMs). This program prepares students to find work with an employer as an Electrician Apprentice.
Students complete their High School Diploma requirements using SAIT Electrician courses as CTS Credits. This program has been designed to fulfill requirements of Alberta Education, Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training, and the SAIT Pre-Employment Electrician Program.
SAIT instructors will deliver the program on-campus at SAIT four days a week, Mondays to Thursdays, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and students will be supervised by a Calgary Catholic off-campus teacher.
Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from SAIT as well as the purchase of Individual Learning Modules (ILMs) and personal protective equipment. Tuition is free for students enrolled in a Calgary Catholic high school. The cost of the program after high school is approximately $4,848.
High school students who are at least 15 years old must:
- Complete the HCS3000 Workplace Safety Systems pre-requisite

- Math 20-1 or Math 20-2 or Math 20-3
- ELA 20-1 or 20-2
