We have a diverse student population and recognizes that each student has individual learning needs and interests. The district strives for quality education for each student and aims to ensure that students receive the most benefit from their learning as possible by offering varied instructional programs of choice.

These programs are not part of the required curriculum for students, but are available as options to those students who may wish to be further challenged in their studies. Some of our programs of choice that would be open to International Students include the following:

Advanced Placement

The Advanced Placement (AP) program is a cooperative educational endeavour between secondary schools and colleges and universities. AP courses allow high school students to experience college-level academic learning. Through the experiences gained in AP courses, students are better prepared for the demands of university level courses.

Students are also able to receive credit, advanced placement, or both from thousands of colleges and universities in Canada and the United States that recognize the AP program.

Students who wish to enroll in AP courses can choose from one subject to several, based on their interests and prerequisite grades.

International Baccalaureate

International Baccalaureate (IB) is a rigorous, worldwide academic program based on an internationally recognized curriculum. IB students complete Alberta Education prescribed curriculum as well as additional curriculum outlined by the international IB organization.

The IB program is offered in Grade 11 and 12 and is designed to fulfill admission requirements of major universities around the world. Students may pursue either a full diploma program (which incorporates all academic disciplines along with an opportunity to develop research and study skills) or subject-specific certificates (which provide targeted enrichment and allow students to challenge themselves in chosen academic areas).

Focused on providing a broad, liberal arts program base, IB is globally recognized as excellent preparation for university studies. The IB program is ideally suited for all high school students who wish to engage in studies beyond the mandated Alberta Education Program of Studies.
