The Calgary Catholic School District offers a variety of Evening Credit Courses in Semester II (February – June 2017). These courses are available to all high school students as well as adult learners.


Courses will be offered on Tuesdays & Thursdays and one Wednesday, June 7, from 5 – 8 p.m.

  • Bishop Grandin High School
    5-credit courses: Math 30-1, Math 30-2, Science 30 and Cosmetology (Hairstyling)
    Feb. 14– June 7, 2017 (except Feb 16, March 9, 28, 30, April 13 and May 4)
    3-credit course: Religious Education 35
    Feb. 14 – April 27, 2017 (except Feb 16, March 9, 28, 30 and April 13)

  • St. Francis High School:
    5-credit courses: ELA 30-1, ELA 30-2 and Math 30-1
    Feb. 14 – June 8, 2017 (except Feb 16, March 28, and 30, April 13 and 20, May 30 and June 6)
    3-credit course: Religious Education 35

Refund Policy
A full refund will be given if a course is cancelled by the district. A full refund, less a $10 processing fee, will be given if the student notifies St. Anne Academic Centre of withdrawal on or before February 7, 2017. To withdraw, phone 403-500-2012, ext. 412.

Course Descriptions

Cosmetology (Hairstyling – 5 credit)
This evening course is comprised of five 1-credit courses that offer flexibility to students whether at the introductory, intermediate or advanced levels. Students can progress through each course in this highly individualized program according to their interest and commitment. Note that there is an additional fee of $80 for the specialized materials used in the course.

English Language Arts 30-1
English Language Arts 30-1 is an approved Alberta Education 5-credit course. There are 5 General Outcomes: a) explore thoughts, ideas, feelings and experiences, b). comprehend literature and other texts in oral, print, visual and multimedia forms, and respond personally, critically and creatively, c) manage ideas and information, d) create oral, print, visual and multimedia texts, and enhance the clarity and artistry of communication, and e) respect, support and collaborate with others. Final course mark is based on 70% class mark and 30% Diploma Exam.

Prerequisite: ELA 20-1 or ELA 30-2
Diploma Exam dates: Thursday June 15, 2017 (9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) for Part A and Thursday, June 22, 2017 (9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) for Part B.

Final course mark is based on 70% class mark and 30% Diploma Exam.

Mathematics 30-1
Mathematics 30-1 is an approved Alberta Education 5-credit course. There are 3 units of study: a) Trigonometry, b) Relations and Functions, and c) Permutations, Combinations and Binomial Theorem. Final course mark is based on 70% class mark and 30% Diploma Exam.

Prerequisite: Mathematics 20-1 or Mathematics 30-2
Diploma Exam date: Monday June 26, 2017 (9:00 - 12:00 p.m.)

Mathematics 30-2
Mathematics 30-2 is an approved Alberta Education 5-credit course. There are 4 units of study: a) Logical Reasoning, b) Probability, c) Relations and Functions and d) a Mathematics Research Project. Final course mark is based on 70% class mark and 30% Diploma Exam.

Prerequisite: Mathematics 20-1 or Mathematics 20-2.
Diploma Exam date: Monday June 26, 2017 (9:00 - 12:00 p.m.)

Religious Education 35 (3-credit)
Accreditation for this Grade 12 Religious Education (Roman Catholic) 35 – In Search of the Good (3-credit) course is granted by Alberta Education. In Search of the Good challenges students to understand themselves as moral persons called to discipleship by living the way of Christ. Through an examination of ethical theories, the revelation of Sacred Scripture, and the lived experience and teaching of the Catholic Church, the course invites students to mature as active participants in their faith. Please note: this course is open to current Grade 12 students only.

Science 30
Science 30 is an approved Alberta Education 5-credit course. There are 4 units of study:

a) Living Systems Respond to Their Environment b) Chemistry and the Environment c) Electromagnetic Energy and d) Energy and the Environment. Final course mark is based on 70% class mark and 30% Diploma Exam.

Prerequisite: Biology 20, Chemistry 20, Physics 20 or Science 20
Diploma Exam date: Thursday June 29, 2017 (1:00 - 4:00 p.m.)
