June 9, 2021 Update from the City of Calgary
"School districts will make a decision in August 2021 about the relaunch of school rentals for Fall 2021.
Over the coming months, the Government of Alberta will be updating sector guidance directives dependent on the status of the pandemic in the province. While the current direction looks promising there is no guarantee that the plans may shift and change. In order to accommodate rentals in schools, several factors must be considered:
- Maintaining mandated cleaning protocols to ensure the health and safety of all persons entering our schools.
- Assuring we have the resources available to maintain the level of cleaning required to accommodate the rentals.
- Providing access based on the current Provincial sector guidance.
- Exploring a phased in approach to rentals based on the directives i.e.1) Full Rentals, 2) Weekend Rentals only, 3) No Rentals
Health and Safety both for our students and staff as well as the community users is top priority when opening schools for community access. We would like to thank you all for your continued patience and look forward to being able to accommodate rentals when it is deemed safe to do so."
2020-2021 School Year Update
Calgary Catholic, the Calgary Board of Education, Conseil Scolaire FrancoSud and the City of Calgary have a long-standing arrangement that allows for the use of school facilities in the evening to support community rentals. To continue to support the health and safety of our students and staff, we have decided to extend the cancellation of community rentals to the end of the 2020-2021 school year.
This decision conforms with Alberta Education's October school re-entry guidance revision and aligns with similar decisions made by many other Alberta school jurisdictions.
We recognize the value that public rentals provide for students and surrounding communities. Once fall 2021 rental timelines are determined, they will be updated here.
