Healthcare Career Essentials

We offer this free one-semester program in partnership with SAIT to prepare students for a career in healthcare. Students develop knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and use technology-enriched medical labs to learn applied skills in infection prevention and control. This program is a step towards a variety of healthcare careers and students learn essential skills in diagnostic imaging, paramedicine, respiratory therapy, dental, pharmacy and more. 

Program Benefits 

When students complete the program, they're eligible to receive 20 high school PSI credits and 7.5 SAIT course credits. Course credits earned in this program may also count toward other healthcare programs at SAIT. Students may also be eligible to apply for transfer credit at a variety of other post-secondary institutions. For competitive programs, applicants with this credential may stand out from the crowd.

Enrolment Requirements 

Students must successfully pass the following courses or equivalents with an overall average of at least 50 per cent before they receive the SAIT certificate:

  • Math 30-1 or 30-2
  • English Language Arts 30-1 or 30-2

We also recommend that students can: 

  • Communicate effectively
  • Interact with a variety of people
  • Respond positively in stressful situations
  • Concentrate on stressful situations
  • Be patient
  • Problem solve.
