Mary Martin

I am a born and raised Albertan and have been a Calgary resident for more than 50 years. I grew up in a close-knit family and was raised with strong Catholic values. My three sisters and I embraced the central role that faith played in our lives. We learned the importance of hard work, to appreciate others’ perspectives and serve our community. I had the privilege of completing primary school in our district and continued my studies at the University of Calgary where I earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing. It is an honour to still serve our community as an acute care registered nurse. My husband and I have four adult sons who are all CCSD graduates. I developed a real appreciation for Catholic education as a volunteer at my sons’ schools and saw firsthand the amazing job our district does on behalf of our students. My trusteeship began in 2007. For more than a decade, I have served in many local and provincial capacities, including: board of directors member, Alberta Catholic School Trustees’ Association (2007–2010); board of directors member, Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) (2010–2012 and 2014–2017); vice-chair, CCSD (2010–2011); chair, CCSD (2011–2014 and 2018–present); vice-president, ASBA (2015–2017); and president, ASBA (2017–2018). For me, serving as a governor for our district is an incredible privilege and responsibility. My children and I have benefited from our district’s unparalleled opportunities and world-class education, and that inspires me to ensure future students have the same experiences.
