Pharmacy Assistant

We offer this free one-year program for grade 10-12 students in partnership with SAIT. Pharmacy assistants work under the supervision of a pharmacist in retail operations compounding, dispensing and packaging prescriptions and sterile products. They also manage inventory, place orders for stock, answer phone calls, accept payments and assist customers with non-prescription product information.

Students complete their high school diploma requirements using SAIT Pharmacy Assistant courses as options. The program fulfills Alberta Education and the program's requirements. Students learn from SAIT instructors on campus and are supervised by a CCSD off-campus teacher. Students attend classes at SAIT Monday to Thursday, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. The program also includes a 160-hour unpaid summer practicum in a pharmacy after students complete the program. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from SAIT and for the purchase of textbooks.

Program Benefits

Once students successfully complete the program and practicum, they can immediately work as a Pharmacy Assistant; no further post-secondary training or experience is required.
