Pre-Employment Carpentry
We offer this free one-year program for students in grades 10-12 in partnership with SAIT. Carpenters work in many areas of construction, including residential, commercial, industrial and maintenance projects. Most carpenters are involved in reading blueprints, selecting materials and methods of work, measuring, cutting and joining materials. Carpenters' duties vary depending on their industry—they may be involved in cribbing a basement, building a house frame or exterior finish or building bridges, tunnels and towers. Carpenters may also specialize in one type of work such as framing, bench work or finishing carpentry.
The program involves comprehensive safety training, exposure to drafting and blueprint reading and covers all first-year carpentry apprenticeship Individual Learning Modules (ILMs). Students complete their High School Diploma requirements using SAIT Carpentry courses as CTS Credits. This program fulfills Alberta Education, Alberta Apprenticeship & Industry Training and the program's requirements.
