Pre-Employment Pipe Trades
We offer this free one-year program for students in grades 10-12 in partnership with SAIT. Students prepare to become pipe trades apprentices who may specialize in residential and commercial plumbing, commercial and industrial gas fitting, steam fitting, building maintenance, oil and gas and/or heating systems.
Apprentice plumbers, steam/pipe-fitters and gas-fitters all complete the same first year technical, safety and hands-on skills training. Students complete their High School Diploma requirements using SAIT plumbing courses as CTS Credits. This program fulfills Alberta Education, Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training and the program's requirements.
Successful graduates of the program will:
- Earn 15 high school credits and 12 SAIT credits
- Earn a SAIT Certificate of Completion in the Pre-Employment Pipe Trades Program
- Become eligible to challenge the Alberta Apprenticeship exam for first-year apprenticeship.
High school students who are at least 15 years old must have completed:
- Math 20-1, 20-2 or 20-3
- ELA 20-1 or 20-1
- Science 10.
Students learn from SAIT instructors on campus Monday to Thursday, from 8:30-11:30 a.m., and are supervised by a CCSD off-campus teacher. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from SAIT.
Tuition is free for CCSD students; the cost of the program after high school is approximately $4,650. Students are required to purchase personal protective equipment.
Students can apply at their high school through their counsellor, career practitioner or Off-Campus Education teacher. See here for detailed Pre-Employment Pipe Trades information.
