The Advanced Placement (AP) program is a cooperative educational endeavour between high schools and universities. AP courses allow high school students to experience university-level academic learning in addition to Alberta Education curriculum. Through the experiences gained in AP courses, students are better prepared for the rigors of university life.
Students who complete an AP course scoring four to five on a five-point scale are able to receive university advanced placement (skip that corresponding course) and are often eligible to receive credit for that corresponding university course from any Canadian university and many American and international colleges and universities.
The availability of AP courses reflects the district’s commitment to maximize students’ access to rigorous and academically challenging courses and programs. All students who are willing to accept the challenge of a rigorous academic curriculum are given consideration for admission to AP courses.
