The Bishop Carroll Athletic Society, a non profit parent volunteer organization, has been in existence for close to 20 years. We aid in the delivery of a high quality athletics program by providing logistical and financial assistance. Athletics includes both Junior and Senior teams in, Volleyball and Basketball as well as gender specific teams for Football, Soccer, Track and Field, Swimming, Rugby and Field hockey. Our students have won many awards and championships including this year’s City of Calgary Senior Girls Division 1 Soccer Championships, City of Calgary Senior Boys Division 3 Football Championships and City of Calgary Junior Boys Cross Country Championships. Our students have participated in many tournaments throughout the province as well as out of province tournaments in Western Canada and international exhibition games and tournaments in the USA. Several of our student athletes have gone on to receive athletic scholarships to post-secondary institutions both in Canada and the US. Most specifically in Volleyball, Swimming, Soccer and Cross-Country running. Such high profile schools as University of Florida and Southern California,(swimming) Eastern Michigan and Milwaukee Wisconsin, (lady’s Soccer) University of Calgary and Trinity Western (Soccer) University of Victoria (Cross-Country) have Carroll alumni students currently on their rosters. Over 30% of the students at BCHS participate in our athletics program either as athletes, trainers, officials or through the student driven Casey Council which supports and enhances athletics and school spirit.

The Bishop Carroll Athletic Society, helps raise funds and applies for grants, such as the Community Spirit Program, to fund team uniforms, equipment purchase and maintenance, tournament fees, camps, and volunteer chaperone expenses. Funds are also used to provide clinics throughout the year and provide financial assistance to students who may not otherwise be able to participate in athletics. The funds raised may also be used to fund general program expenses such as printing programs. This in turn helps keep fees to a minimum.

Athletics benefits the community by enhancing the physical and social well-being of our students which research shows in turn influences their performance in academics and prepares them for their future in the workplace and community. Our students participate in and support local and provincial tournaments and competitions and bring their national and international experience back to Alberta. Our athletics program fosters students willingness to learn, to perform and share the excitement and entertainment of sports, promoting athletics in our community.
