What is Best Buddies?

Best Buddies or Vrais Copains Canada, is a national charitable organization dedicated to enhancing our communities through one-to-one friendships between people with intellectual disabilities and students. Best Buddies is grounded in the belief that friendship is important to the development of all individuals and that for all people with intellectual disabilities, friendship is a medium through which they can become a part of their communities.

Here at Bishop Grandin, our program gives students with intellectual disabilites the chance to have experiences which most people take for granted – going for coffee, out to a movie, or simply enjoying the company of a good friend. At BGHS, we meet once a week over the lunch break and are involved in fun activities. It is our goal that chapter students will eventually be matched with students with intellectual disabilities who share similiar interests. Each chapter is managed by a student volunteer who is assisted by a person with an intelletual disability, a Buddy Advocate, where possible.
