The rationale for the annual Bishop Grandin Café Bistro is activity stems from the belief that language learning requires more than the simple acquisition of grammar. To properly learn a language one must be exposed to its culture. This evening of French songs, dances, skits and food is designed to invite our students into that French culture.

All of our French Immersion students are strongly encouraged to participate in this event. Some as waiters and waitresses, some perform, others handle the technology of filming, sound and lighting, others help with the set-up, decoration and clean-up and still others participate by finding a French recipe for a finger food (squares, cookies etc.), preparing it and bringing it to school to be shared at the Café Bistro.

We often invite students and parents from some of our feeder schools to come to get and idea of the wonderful, energetic and talented students we have in our French Immersion program. Our MCs do a wonderful job of introducing the various acts and keeping the evening rolling along on a fun note.

Some acts have become Bistro standard favourites, such as the funny videos and the grade 11 Can-Can Girls. Several lucky audience members went home with wonderful door prizes donated by some of our French Immersion families. The evening is always a great success and warm thanks are extended to all participants.
