Bishop Grandin Marching Ghosts is the only high school marching band available in Western Canada. As a result, students are able to attend Bishop Grandin High School from all over the city of Calgary if they wish to become involved in this internationally recognized music program. The Bishop Grandin Ghosts are perennial winners of Show and Marching Band competitions throughout Canada and have gained an international reputation for excellence over the year by participating in competitions in the summer months. This one-of-a-kind opportunity is available to any student leaving a junior high instrumental band program.
The Bishop Grandin Marching Ghosts program is a complex program that includes brass, woodwinds and percussion sections as well as a colour guard. The program is directed by Mr. Vince Strem who has a reputation for excellence in music instruction.
This program is supported by the efforts of the Bishop Grandin Band Parents Association which provides both administrative and financial support to the program. Fundraising is an on-going necessity to support the program, the equipment needs as well as the annual travel.
Students who become involved in the Bishop Grandin Marching Ghosts make a year-long commitment which includes early morning sectionals, Friday night and Saturday rehearsals and monthly band camps at the school or out of town. In addition, there are several performance opportunities throughout the year both in and out of the city. We are excited to be investigating the return of overseas competitions which will bring an enhanced cultural experience to the study of music and instrumental performance.
