The E.L.L. program is designed for students who have come to Canada from other countries and/or speak languages other than English and upon entering Alberta schools, have varying levels of English proficiency. The goal of this program is to provide the students with instruction that will allow them to speak the English language fluently, further their education and become productive members of Albertan and Canadian society.
Five course credits can be earned for successfully completing each of Levels 2, 3 and 4 of the senior high school ELL program. Candidates must be assessed by an ELL teacher at the junior high level, the high school level or at the ELL Reception Centre in order to be placed in the appropriate level of instruction. Usually a student will require more than one semester to complete the beginner and intermediate levels of study.
