(CTF) is a new curriculum for grades 5-9 that focuses on the outcomes of the CTF students explore their interests, passions and skills while making personal connections to career possibilities through relevant, meaningful and engaging learning experiences.

Career and Technology Foundations (CTF) is a new and unique curriculum based on Career and Technology Studies (CTS). Career exploration is incorporated in the CTF curriculum and courses to encourage students to make connections between areas of interest and skill development in various occupational areas. CTF is designed to allow students in grades 7, 8, and 9 to explore their interests, passions and skills while making personal connections to career possibilities through meaningful learning experiences made possible through engaging challenges.


CTF supports:

  • exploring occupational areas through an inquiry-based approach;
  • interdisciplinary learning opportunities;
  • developing literacy and numeracy;
  • developing cross-curricular competencies;
  • connecting with the community by creating authentic learning; experiences that result in a product, service or performance.

In CTF, students design, create, appraise and communicate responses to challenges where they explore the attitudes, skills and knowledge that are associated with four occupational areas:

  • Communication
  • Human Services
  • Resources
  • Technology
