Welcome to our music programs – designed to give your child many opportunities for participation, success and enjoyment in a comfortable and positive atmosphere! We are proud to offer full programs for all our elementary students, along with an optional instrumental program for junior high, all taught by a music specialist in our exceptional facilities including quality instruments and equipment. Our music teacher is Mr. Chris Greschner and he is thrilled to be returning to the CTK community this year teaching grades K-5 music and grades 6-9 instrumental band!

Junior High Band Course Outline:
Grade 7-9 Parents: this is everything you need to know about our program. Please make sure you have read with your child, signed and returned to me at school. Thanks for providing an email contact (kept confidential and never spammed) so I can keep you updated throughout the year!

Grade 8/Grade 9 Intent to Attend Band Camp: Parents, please sign and return these with your child ASAP to let me know if your child can come to band camp on October 23/24 (two days/one night). Cost of camp is $200 per student all-inclusive.

CSSD Instrument Rental Contracts for Grades 6-9 Students:
Grade 6-9 Families Needing an Instrument from the School District: **NEW FOR 2018/19: The instrumental Music Program will be running a pilot for implementing the Instrument Rental contracts/fees in an online format. The cost is $100 for the year and this includes a $50 non-refundable admin fee. Families will be able to sign up and pay for their instruments directly from the school district website. Please watch for a separate letter coming home with your child soon about this.

PARENTS PLEASE ALSO NOTE: You still have the ability to rent or purchase your own instrument from an outside retailer, if you prefer.

Grade 6 Band Program

Grade 6 Parents: Your child has the opportunity to begin learning a band instrument (flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone or euphonium/baritone) in advance of their junior high years. Families will be able to acquire their instruments through the school board (see above) or from an outside retailer. Information letters will be sent home with your child soon!

Jazz Band:
A fun extra-curricular playing opportunity available to any interested grade 7/8/9 students on any instrument. We play lots of fun, popular tunes! Rehearsals TBA; stay tuned for upcoming announcements about our first meeting!

IMMEDIATE NEEDS/ADULT VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED:

Grade 8/9 Overnight Band Camp Retreat in October/Grade 7 Day Camp in January
Parents/Guardians/Adults needed from grades 7-9:
These amazing trip opportunities require AT LEAST 5-7 adults. Grade 8/9 overnight trip (Oct. 23-24) requires 5-7 adults with current VRC (Vulnerable Records Checks) from Calgary Police Service who can attend with us as chaperones.
**If enough adult volunteers cannot be found to satisfy the CCSD supervision ratio, then sadly these amazing trips WILL be cancelled!
Please let me know ASAP if you can volunteer your time for the overnight band camps. Applicants will receive a letter from our main office that waives the CPS fee for the VRC (Records Check).
**If you volunteered on an overnight band camp retreat last year and still have your current VRC, you DON'T need to apply again! Please let me know right away if you're available again this year.
