Philosophy

The major objective of our interscholastic program is to promote the growth and development of all the participants. It is the development of the whole person that is important.

Objectives

The purpose of our athletic program is to enhance the educational experience of the student with healthy competition. This competition should prepare student-athletes for citizenship by teaching good sportsmanship. Good sportsmanship will be evidenced when student athletes, play hard, play safe and accept the result of interscholastic competition.

Sportsmanship

As an association we need to establish acceptable standards for sportsmanlike behavior and correct behavior that is unacceptable.

We ask coaches to:

  • Exemplify the highest moral character behaviour and leadership
  • Respect the integrity and personality of athlete
  • Teach the rules of the game – both the letter and the spirit of the rules
  • Set an excellent example for players and spectators
  • Respect the integrity and judgment of game officials
  • Teach and reward sportsmanship

We ask student athletes to:

  • Accept and understand the seriousness, responsibility, and privilege of representing one’s school
  • Learn the rules of the game
  • Treat opponents with respect: “Remember the Golden Rule”
  • Respect the integrity and judgment of game officials

The keys to good sportsmanship are simple:

  • Know the rules of the game
  • Recognize good plays for both teams
  • Respect opponents, officials and spectators

Athletic Philosophy

Athletics are an integral part of the Calgary Catholic Junior High School program of education. As a part of this program only the highest standards of ethics and sportsmanship must be maintained.

  1. All stakeholders (participants, parents and coaches) should become familiar with the requirements, rules and regulations for participating in any sport. Electing to participate should be an indication of willingness to comply with the meaning and spirit of this code
  2. Self discipline in physical and mental reactions, taking and following directions and respect for authority are desirable traits in any individual, but are a must in an athlete
  3. Students participating in any school sport should be maintaining academic standards and in regular attendance at school.
  4. Tryouts must be open to all student
  5. Communication – All schools will submit the name of an Athletic Representative who will assume a leadership role for each school and who will be the main contact for that school
