showcase skills developed by students in schools. Student-athletes have the
opportunity to learn physical skills and team tactics, which are perfected
during long hours of practice. Students also learn important social and life
skills when they are part of a group. Goal setting, time management, and coping
with different types of stress associated with competition are just a few of
the skills learned.
To provide structure and organization for athletes and to
maintain fair, ethical practices in a competitive environment, junior high
schools are members of the Calgary Catholic Junior High School Athletic
Association (CCJHSAA) and senior high schools are members of
Calgary Senior High School AthleticAssociation (CSHSAA).
Association recognizes the importance of using athletics to enhance the overall
wellbeing of the student by ensuring that safe and fair practices are followed.
Interscholastic athletics, as a recognized part of the school program, provides
a venue to recognize and celebrate the various abilities of students, promote
student leadership and foster positive sportsmanship.
