WILL THE IB PROGRAMME CAUSE A STUDENT’S GRADES TO BE LOWER ?

No. Students in the IB programme are evaluated by Alberta Education criteria. Students will receive a mark that is based solely on Alberta Education standards and another mark that is based on IB criteria.

It is important to note that the transition from junior high to high school can be challenging. High school life offers considerably more independence and more in-depth learning.

DOES TAKING IB LIMIT OPPORTUNITES TO PARTICIPATE IN OTHER ACTIVITIES?

No. Many of our school leaders are IB students. Students play on athletic teams and participate in extra curricular programming in and outside ofschool. The IB programme is focused on helping students become well-rounded and well-balanced citizens.

WHAT ARE THE PROGRAMME PREREQUISITES?

It is recommended that full IB Diploma students have honours standing in junior high with no mark below 70%. It is also an advantage for students to have good time-management and study skills.

For students wishing to participate in the certificateprogramme (partial IB), it is recommended that students have a mark above 75% in the corresponding grade 9 course.

WHAT IS THE APPLICATION PROCESS?

It is important to note that the IB programme does not officially begin until grade 11. Applications are accepted for the pre-IB programme at the grade 10 level.
