All of our district schools have support within the regular classroom. In addition, each school has a diverse learning coordinating teacher (DLCT) who coordinates a wide range of supports to assist in programming for students with diverse learning needs.
The majority of students’ needs are successfully addressed within the class setting through differentiation and individualized learning plans. In some circumstances students need additional academic intervention and/or therapy services which the DLCT will help to facilitate.
Support may include assessment, learning support plan development, individual or small group instruction, assistive technology, coordinating special education placement and/or accessing health-related services, including speech/language therapy, occupational therapy, in home and mental health support. The DLCT also works with teachers from other schools to support successful transition planning.
When appropriate, we work with our instructional services department, community agencies and supports to design and deliver programming for students with diverse learning needs.
