MS. KAREN CARTIER-ARIES
Hello! My name is Karen Cartier Aries. I am so excited to be a part of this new beginning. What a wonderful adventure I get to be a part of! I am married to a lovely man and have three grown children, a daughter and two sons. I am not officially an “empty nester” as my children leave and return to the nest as they pursue various educational paths. Claire is finishing her Master’s Program in counselling. Zachary is completing his Computer Engineering Degree and working full time as a web designer for Distance Learning. Noah works for Ducks Unlimited and is involved in wetlands reclamation projects. I am very proud of my family. They have become kind, creative and interesting adults. I have a large extended family that I am close to. My parents are still very involved in my life. My 81 year old mother volunteers in my classroom every week. My father loves to build and is continually making things for my classroom. My dad was a principal in our school district for many years.
I have a love of nature and the outdoors! My parents live on eighty acres in DeWinton. I spend a great deal of peaceful time there. I love to walk, bike ride and cross country ski. I am an urban hiker and enjoy exploring our beautiful city with my walking friends. I love reading and creating art for my own enjoyment.
I have taught Grade One for thirty seven years with the Calgary Catholic School District and had the good fortune of going through this wonderful system as a child. Teaching has always been my passion. I decided to teach my younger brother to read when he was four and thus my career path began. I bring to teaching enthusiasm, energy, creativity and a passion for life-long learning. I integrate my love of children’s literature with art, music and movement to inspire in my students a desire to learn. I also bring my love of nature into the classroom to create a sense of wonder and curiosity about our world and promote critical thinking and problem solving.
I look forward to getting to know my new school community!

MR. ROB MACDONALD
Hello! My name is Robert MacDonald. I have lived in Calgary for the last 14 years. I moved here from Victoria B.C. which is where I completed my Bachelor of Education degree after completing a Bachelor of Arts with a major in English. I have been teaching for thirteen years with the Calgary Catholic School District; most of those years have been spent at Saint Philip Fine Arts School. I am very passionate about learning through the arts, or using the fine arts to design engaging, authentic and highly rewarding educative experiences. I am married and have two children, a son and a daughter. My son Liam is twelve years old and has just completed his first year of junior high and my daughter Georgia is eight years old and has just completed grade three. Rounding out our family of four is a pooch named Winter, two crested Geckos named Bombay and Yoshi and a fish who remains nameless. Our family loves spending time together outdoors, camping, hiking and bike riding. One of our favourite things to do each summer is head “back home” to Vancouver Island. I am very excited to be joining the talented, dedicated staff of Holy Child!

Although I have taught other grades, I must say that Kindergarten has proven to be my special passion since 2004. I also love spending time with my wonderful husband, two lovely daughters and my close family. In my spare time, I am an avid swimmer, traveller and reader. MS. LIZ SCHIER
I am so excited to be joining the Holy Child team!I look forward to getting to know many new families and staff, although I’m lucky enough to know quite a few colleagues already, through working with them at other schools. My career as a teacher began in Regina and has continued with Calgary Catholic since we moved here in 1995.I’ve had a variety of teaching experiences, including specialized programs and regular classrooms at the elementary level. I love working with students and really getting to know their personalities and learning styles. My goal is always to help them achieve their personal best and to inspire within them a love of learning. Aside from teaching, my passions include spending time with my family (husband, daughter, son-in-law and young grandson) and playing the flute. I began studying piano at the age of 5 and continued this throughout elementary school. It was a great foundation for moving on to other instruments such as trumpet and saxophone. However, I ended up settling on the flute and have never looked back! It has given me the opportunity to play with various bands, orchestras, ensembles and to be part of the music ministry at Saint Bonaventure Parish. I have been involved with some type of musical group for most of my life and routinely play for different school functions and assemblies, as well. I hope to be able to “share my sparkle” and continue this at Holy Child!
MS. BRIANNE SHEETS
Hi, I am Miss Brianne Sheets and I cannot wait to join Holy Child School. This is my second year teaching and I have loved every minute of my journey as a teacher so far! I was born and raised here in Calgary and love this city very much. I am an avid Calgary Flames fan and love many other sports too. I have a sweet puppy named Mowgli - you could say I have a serious love of dogs! My favourite past-time is reading; I love the adventures I get to go on in each new book I pick up. My taste in movies, music and television is so random and eclectic but my favourite band is Arkells and I love suspenseful story lines. I cannot wait to meet everyone and know we are bound for greatness as we work together to create a school filled with love, ambition and creativity!
