Dear Holy Child Parent Community,
I am not sure about you guys, but at my house, we have hit a wall!My kids seem dusted and frustrated. They want this to be over and although things have eased up, it is still not “over.” My counselling colleagues have also reported an increase of students who are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, and struggling to manage their time and assignments, plus they really miss seeing their friends. This is tough for them too.Being kind and patient with one another and ourselves is still so important and something I need to remind myself of as well.
For those of you who are struggling to connect and help your children through some of these rough waters, you are not alone! Connie Jakab, an author, speaker, researcher, and wellness coach is offering a free 1.5-hour seminar to parents called “Bring them Closer”. Connie’s seminar focuses on helping parents develop some tools and strategies that will help them stay connected with their children, so they can best support them, especially during this time. Some of the topics she will touch on include:
- how to connect with your kids through covid
- how to emotionally regulate
- how to create an environment in your home that supports mental health
- strategies to prevent suicide and abuse
- intro to Adverse Childhood Experiences and healing from trauma
Connie is passionate about mental health and has been working in the field for over 20 years and has written a booked called “Bring them Closer”, which focuses on some of these connections with our children. She is also part of the organization Wellness Innovate, as well as a leader in another parent support group called “The Brave Parent Institute”, which brings parents together and creates a community of support surrounding mental health. Please check her out here: https://conniejakab.com/
