Message from our Counsellor - Mr. Crossley

Greetings! My name is Collin Crossley and I am the school counsellor at Light of Christ. The Calgary Catholic School District has given me the opportunity to meet with and address the needs of the students from kindergarten to grade 9.

The School Counsellor position has many duties and responsibilities. I will be meeting with the students throughout the year to help provide additional support so that they may achieve their academic and personal potential. I am also available for individual counselling sessions with students in the counsellor’s office, which is a safe place to discuss confidential areas of concern.

Throughout the year, I am available to discuss with teachers, parents and students any emotional or social issues that students experience that may be affecting them.Sometimes it is hard for students to attend and achieve their academic best if they are preoccupied with personal issues. These issues range from self-esteem, anxiety, depression and loneliness, to conflict with friends, family or others. The counselling program helps students build resources and coping strategies to help students learn how to deal with these concerns in a healthy and productive manner.

I will also be providing information for the grade 9 students and their families regarding high school registration and course selection for next year. Official high school registration will take place in March, 2018.

As the counsellor, I also work with a variety of outside agencies that can provide a wide variety of resources for students and their families.
