REHEARSAL FACILITY

In 2015 we celebrated the opening of the finest rehearsal facility in the District! Our new Music Room is an acoustically precise masterpiece; perfect training grounds for our performances at the Rozsa Centre Concert Hall!

ROZSA CENTRE CONCERTS

All Notre Dame musicians conclude each semester with a large-scale show in the Rozsa Centre at the University of Calgary. The Rozsa Centre houses one of the premiere music recital facilities in western Canada, the Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall – a 384 seat acoustic marvel. Students will rehearse and perform like professionals in this renowned venue. Rozsa Centre Shows are a highlight of our music program.

PROFESSIONAL CLINICIANS

Notre Dame Music is connected with Calgary’s professional music community and hosts in-class clinics and weekend workshops each year. Working with professionals on each instrument, students receive specialized, instrument-specific instruction. These freelance artists make their living as working musicians and bring real-world expertise to the rehearsal room.

CALGARY PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA TRIPS

The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra began in 1910 with the founding of the First Calgary Symphony. The Calgary Symphony merged with the Mount Royal Orchestra in 1947 forming the New Calgary Symphony. In 1955 Dutch conductor Henry Plukker created the Alberta Philharmonic, which merged with the Calgary Symphony and a new name was chosen – Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. The CPO performs 65 concerts per season to over 100,000 people in Calgary and its surrounding area. The orchestra is currently under the baton of Grammy and Emmy Award-winning conductor Roberto Minczuk. Minczuk also conducts the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra in Rio de Janeiro.

Semester 1, Day Trip (Concert Dress): Students will have the opportunity to watch the symphony rehearse. This behind-the-scenes experience provides a formal model for our rehearsals.

Semester 2, Evening Trip (Semi-Formal): Watching a professional symphony orchestra performance is a break taking experience that leaves lasting impressions on ND Musicians. This event is often nicknamed “Music Grad” as we wish all graduating musicians all the best in their future endeavours.
