Mr. Ramsay was the first music director when the school opened in 2005 until 2010. He had a very limited music space behind the theater stage, now a class and rehearsal space. The Calgary Catholic School District elected to construct a new music space as part of the North-wing addition addition that opened with input from Mr. Heffernan in 2015. The space has excellent acoustics with non-parallel walls, sound-absorbing panels screened with stained glass images from Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, and a CAD-designed multi-faceted mahagony wood ceiling for diffusion and reflection. The two-story, over 2000 ft 2 space is also the rehearsal home of the Rocky Mountain Band Society and an alternate rehearsal space for the Calgary Wind Symphony. Dr. Schneider continues to augment the space with technology including iPads and mirrors in each of the practice rooms, enhancing the sound system, expanding the recording setup, and a large projection screen. 2020 is the 250 th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth, and the room entrance now has a memorial to the composer with a life-sized bust on loan from Dr. Schneider. The space will soon have video-conferencing capabilities and a high output video projector. We are fortunate to enjoy one of the best rooms in the city of Calgary!
