Pre-registration letter September 19, 2016
All Calgary Catholic elementary schools offer a half-day kindergarten program and depending on total kindergarten enrolment, we may offer a choice of morning or afternoon classes on a first-come, first-served basis. A child who turns four years old on or before March 1 is eligible to attend kindergarten in the fall of that same calendar year. For example, this means to register for kindergarten in September 2019, a child must turn four years old on or before March 1, 2019. Your child’s birth certificate is required at the time of registration.
The Alberta Government has made changes regarding kindergarten entry age for the 2020-2021 school year; children must turn five years on or before December 31, 2020. The amendments to the School Act are in effect for all Alberta school boards as of September 2020. Note that for the 2019-2020 school year, the registration dates for kindergarten remain the same; a child must turn five on or before March 1, 2020. These government changes do affect the age of eligibility for ELL preschool as well. To enroll for the 2019-2020 school year, a child must turn 4 by December 31, 2019.
Grades 1 – 9
A child who turns five years old on or before March 1 is eligible to register for Grade 1 in that fall of that same calendar year. For example, this means to register for Grade 1 in September 2018, children must turn five years old on or before March 1, 2018. The child’s birth certificate is required and one parent’s Catholic baptismal certificate is requested to be presented at the time of registration. Resident Catholic students transitioning from kindergarten to Grade 1 in the same school do not need to re-register for Grade 1. Non-resident students need to inquire with the principal of the school to determine if they will be able to register for Grade 1 based on available facilities and resources. Parents of students not previously registered at any grade level should call the school for an appointment to register.
Designated Attendance Areas for Schools
The Calgary Catholic School District has designated attendance areas for all schools. CCSD uses boundaries strategically to ensure optimal student populations that support viable programming across the district. It is the expectation that students will attend their designated school. Please be aware that school attendance boundaries can and do change to accommodate factors including changing demographic information, the opening or closing of a school, to relieve overcrowding in schools, etc.
New Students to Canada
