Our Lady of Lourdes School is designed to meet the needs of students with complex social, emotional, family and/or academic and behavioural challenges. Through a process of integrating educational and therapeutic supports, the staff at Our Lady of Lourdes work closely with students and parents to address individual learning needs and each student’s educational and therapeutic program is planned and implemented in partnership with parental and student input.
We pay close attention to emotional development as well as the educational development of our students. We believe that our students deserve to be educated to a high standard and through differentiation, modified timetables and a nurturing approach have high expectations. It is only by wanting the best for our students that we can help them reach their potential.
Our Lady of Lourdes School offers a transitional program that keeps students connected with their local school and community when appropriate. We work hard to offer our students the opportunity to practice the skills we teach them in real life settings and believe that education outside the classroom is important. The program is consistent with Alberta Education mandates, regulations and programs of studies.
Students arriving at Our Lady of Lourdes may have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, or an Emotional Behavioural Disability. Each student placed at Our Lady of Lourdes School has a history of difficulty in regular school settings, and may have learning deficits as well. Individual Program Plans and Behaviour Support Plans are developed for each student. The goal in every case is to assist the student in developing a repertoire of strategies that will assist the student upon his/her return to a regular school setting.
