Division 3/ Junior High teachers (Grade 7-9):
David Collier: Division 3 teacher (Humanities)
Hello Spartans! It has
been an absolute pleasure getting to know the students and families here in
Auburn Bay. The culture that we have set at Prince of Peace is of a loving
nature, where students feel comfortable in their own shoes, and is one that I
am very proud to be a part of. I have been teaching in the district since 2010,
gaining a variety of experience in many different subject areas. My focus is on
the humanities, in particular, Social Studies and Language Arts. I have a
strong background in coaching, as teaching sports and the values of team work
is a passion of mine. I thoroughly enjoy music, especially the live variety,
staying fit and travelling. I believe that those who bring their own positive
life experiences into the classroom are the ones best able to enrich a child’s
educational experience. I believe I do this as best as I can, every day I teach.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed
citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” – Margaret Mead
Laura Massie: Division 3 teacher (Math & Science)
I am so very
pleased to be part of the Prince of Peace staff and school community. I have
been teaching with CSSD since 2003, grades 3 - 8. My favorite subjects to teach
are Math and Science, but my favorite thing about teaching is being involved
with the students and building strength and capacity within each of them. My
own children keep me very busy outside of school, however, I always find time
for the things I enjoy doing like reading, hiking, golf, and traveling. My
favorite thing about working at Prince of Peace is that I get to do what I love
with the most amazing people (staff and students) every day!
Susan Weatherill: Division 3 teacher (Elem. Music & JH Band)
I am very excited to be teaching at Prince of Peace! I am very passionate I am about music, band, and music education in general. I started my teaching career with the Calgary Catholic School Board in 1995. And in fact, only one of those years was without teaching music in some form or another. Personally, I am married and have two teenage daughters. As a family we love to camp, bike, rock climb, and ski/snowboard. Musically, I was once the principal trombone player of the University of Alberta Symphonic Wind Ensemble. Currently I participate in our district’s opening mass and Faith Day celebrations by playing in the band with other music teachers. I am also very involved with the Calgary Round Up Band as a mom, chaperone, and current member of the board of directors. I am looking forward to growing with the community of Auburn Bay at Prince of Peace!
Jennifer Niksic: Division 3 teacher
I am thrilled to be teaching Junior High at
Prince of Peace in Auburn Bay. Respect, accountability, life-long learning,
choice and a positive attitude govern my educational philosophy. I
believe that if we act in a manner that reflects these values students will
learn. I am a fourth generation Calgarian, a graduate of CCSD and have
been working for the district for over 20 years. I have two daughters attending
university who are both involved in the local arts scene. My absolute favorite
thing to do is travel all over the world with my friends and family. Go

It has been a great pleasure to be part of the Prince of Peace staff. Since the opening of the school, I have enjoyed working in the beautiful community of Auburn Bay and I am very proud to see many of our students excel in their academic and extracurricular endeavors. My teaching career is nearing a decade with Calgary Catholic School District and it has been a very gratifying journey. My teaching passions are Junior High Mathematics, Physical Education, as well as coaching various sports. Nothing beats a healthy mind and a healthy heart! It is my goal to entrust each one of my students with a solid work ethic and a balanced approach to healthy living. Outside of my work I try to practice what I preach! I enjoy travelling, spending time with family at the lake, and keeping active with various activities, especially playing volleyball, cycling, hiking, downhill and cross-country skiing, and scuba diving. The Spartan spirit lives within everyone who sets foot in our school! GO SPARTANS GO!!!

Liisa Honish: Division 3
Hello Prince of Peace families. I am so excited to be a part of Prince of Peace School! I began teaching with the Calgary Board of Education in 2000, but felt called to join the CSSD in 2014. I have taught band, humanities and a variety of other classes (including grade 3 one year!) in that time. My favourite part of teaching is building relationships with my students and watching them learn and grow. Outside of school I am very involved in St. Albert the Great parish as a Eucharistic minister and coordinator of the Coming Alive Camp. I am married to an amazing math teacher and we have 4 children who keep us extremely busy with piano lessons and all of their sports activities.

I believe in team work both in the classroom and outside. Look forward to working with our team of teachers, students, and you, the parents! See you soon!
Carly Morton: Division 3 teacher (Humanities)
Hello Spartans! I am extremely excited to be joining the Prince of Peace team this year, and I am looking forward to meeting the amazing community of parents and students. I truly feel blessed to be able to share my passion of Social Studies and English with all of you this year.
I believe in being a champion for students by providing a safe and engaging learning environment for all students. One of the most effective ways to facilitate this type of environment, in my experience, is through creating an environment of respect. For students to succeed, they need feel comfortable stepping outside of their comfort zone and challenge their understandings. I feel that it is important to engage student learning with previous learning and personal experiences, while also providing new learning experiences in order to facilitate deep understanding and mastery. Providing various forms for students to express their learning and understandings are key to student engagement and providing a forum for students to become active and confident members of their own learning.
I have had a lot of experience working with children of all ages. I have also had the opportunity to work with in a variety of extra curricular activities with faculty and students. These experiences have helped me to build relationships with students and understand how to differentiate programing to support individual learners and engage youth in new activities. My experiences in coaching and recreational capacities with youth is something that I look forward to continuing her at Prince of Peace. I am thrilled at the opportunity to grow and learn with you all this year!
Bryce Gillis: Division 3 & Elementary Phys. Ed. teacher
Hello Spartan Family! I am looking forward to yet another great year at Prince of Peace. My responsibilities have changed since last year and I could not be happier about the new transitions. I will be teaching more elementary Phys. Ed and some Junior high Options. Janet Post - Division 3 teacher
Hello Spartans! My name is Janet Post. I am excited to be joining the junior high team here at Prince of Peace. I feel honoured to be part of this wonderful school community and look forward to sharing my passion for Science and Phys. Ed. with the students who walk through my classroom door.
My hope is to instill a love of learning in each and every child I teach. I want my students to feel valued and appreciated, both as learners and as people. I believe that before any learning can take place, positive relationships must be established. I treat my students with respect and expect that the same level of consideration will be reciprocated in my classroom .As an educator, I strive to challenge and support my students in order to help them reach their learning potential.
When I am not teaching, much of my time is spent with my two little ones. My husband and I enjoy sharing our passion for physical activity, learning and exploring new places with our daughter and son. Having two children under three is definitely busy but we are loving every moment.
I was born and raised in Calgary and grew up in the CCSD.I am very proud to be teaching for a district that provided me with such a rich educational experience when I was a child. I have thoroughly enjoyed the last 11 years of my teaching career and look forward to continuing my journey here at Prince of Peace. Looking forward to an exciting school year!
Amy Hirtle: Division 3 teacher
I am beyond excited to enter my second year at Prince of Peace School as one of the Junior High teachers as a Fall 2019! I am a born and raised Calgary girl who has been a teacher with CCSD for 13 years. I’ve taught a few different grades, but most of my time has been spent teaching grade five. I am a busy mom to two beautiful young girls, and I spend most of my free time creating memories with them! I enjoy reading, yoga, being outside, traveling, and spending time at the beach. My favourite thing about teaching is that each day brings something different, and I can’t wait to experience all the learning and adventures that are coming our way in this next school year.
