Diverse Learning Teacher
Our diverse learning teacher (DLT) will look to provide a wide range of supports to assist in programming for students with diverse learning needs.
The majority of students are able to work effectively in achieving their potential within the regular classroom; however, some require additional supports. The DLT teacher, in collaboration with classroom teachers, will help to identifying students who have various needs. With identification and intervention, many students’ needs are successfully addressed within the class setting through differentiation. In some circumstances students need additional academic intervention and/or therapy services which we help facilitate.
Support may include assessment, learning support plan development, individual or small group instruction, assistive technology, coordinating special education placement and/or accessing health-related services, including speech/language therapy, occupational therapy, in home and mental health support. The DTL teacher also works with teachers from other schools to support successful transition planning.
When appropriate, we work with our instructional services department, community agencies and supports to design and deliver programming for students with diverse learning needs.
