St. Andrew School Council
The School Council acts as an advisory group to the school’s administrators. The council also fundraises for council sponsored events and supplies. 100% of funds go back into the school. All council positions must commit to attending monthly council meetings. We meet approximately once per month; the day of the week is predetermined by council executive at the end of the year. All parents are welcome to attend.

St. Andrew Educational Society
This is a non-profit society whose main goal is to support the school’s goals by raising funds for various additional materials and programs. All parents with children in the school are members of the society and are welcome to attend any meeting. Meetings are held monthly after the council meeting.
Both meeting lasts for ½-1 hour total.
Executive Positions & Roles
In consultation with the chairperson and/or executive, the principal sets meeting dates and agenda items. The Principal has final responsibility for all school activities and has ultimate responsibility for all school budget decisions. The Principal supports and advises the council from the administrative perspective and reviews the monthly banck statement.
The Chairperson of the school council, in consultation with other executive members, constlts with the principal regarding agenda items and meeting dates and calls and chairs each meeting. The Chair ensures that minutes are recorded and maintained and makes sure there is regular communication with the school community. The Chair follows the existing school council bylaws and operating procedures, solicits input from all memebers and completes and submits the year-end report to the Board of Trustees by September 30th of each year.
The School Council Chairperson may also be Chairperson for the St. Andrew Educational Society.
The Vice Chair assists the Chairperson with a variety of duties and chairs meetings in the Chairperson’s absence. The Vice Chair promotes teamwork, and assista the chair in the smooth running of meetings. Traditionally, the Vice Chair becomes the Chairperson for the following school year. The School Council Vice Chair may also be Vice Chair for St. Andrew Educational Society.
The main duties of the Treasurer are as follows:
- maintain detailed and accurate budget report and general ledger
- write cheques on behalf of School Council (cheques must be cosigned with principal)
- reconcile bank statements monthly
- make regular deposits as required (pizza days and fundraising proceeds)
- present treasurer’s report at monthly meeting
- prepare year-end summary report (or general ledger) for submission to School Board
The Secretary must attend each Council meeting and take meeting minutes and then prepare them for distribution to attendees. Duties also include handling of School Council correspondence when necessary and maintaining School Council files. The Council secretary may also act as secretary of St. Andrew Educational Society.
Special Lunch Coordinator
In consultation with the Prinicpal, the special lunch coordinator sets dates for the special lunches throughout the year. Other duties include setting up and maintaining the account with Healthy Hunger and ensuring that special lunches run smoothly.
The main duty involves recruiting for special school events. In some cases and depending on the event or activity (e.g. Artist in Residence), the coordinator may have to schedule volunteers. This part of the job involves phoning or emailing parents. Early in the year, volunteer forms are distributed to families asking for volunteer interest and contact information. The Volunteer Coordinator then compiles this information.
